Dear Families,
This year, the Board of Trustees approved a new Diversity Mission Statement for University Prep. This statement grew out of the work of the Diversity and Community Committee and serves as an anchor and guide for our current and future work to fulfill the vision of University Prep to “be an inclusive community of learners that provides an outstanding education for each individual student in a diverse student population.” Here is the new Diversity Mission Statement:
"University Prep’s mission compels us to train and educate the next generation of leaders who will create impact and change in an interdependent, complex, and global community. Our students need to see, hear, and understand the diversity of people, perspectives and points of view around them and the world they will lead in the years ahead. Essential to this proposition is the ability of our students to identify, analyze, and act on issues of equity, justice, and inclusion. Our world demands it.”
Our two annual campaigns – The Puma Fund and the upcoming Raise-the-Paddle event – are critical to our mission to grow the next generation of leaders and to build and sustain a diverse, equitable, accessible, and inclusive community. Frankly, we could not realize our mission to ensure that each student at University Prep has every opportunity to realize his or her potential, without the generous support of our families.
This year’s community celebration on March 10 will benefit our Endowed Financial Aid Fund. When you give to this endowment, you create a reliable, ongoing stream of income which ensures that UPrep will continue to hold diversity, equity, access, and inclusion at the core of our educational experience.
The funds we raise at this year’s event will have an enduring impact on the student experience. The principal monies will be kept in place, while the earnings from this endowment will go toward financial aid EACH YEAR after that in perpetuity. Over time, this endowment will grow and allow even more students to experience a UPrep education.
I hope you will join me at this fun and festive event on March 10. I also hope you will consider giving generously that evening, and help us make our mission a reality for every student at University Prep.
Hope to see you at the celebration!
