What is #WeAreUPrep?

#WeAreUPrep is this year's spring celebration at the Seattle Art Museum (SAM) on Friday, March 9 at 7 p.m. It is an evening to come together and celebrate our wonderful community and also to raise money for the Financial Aid Endowment.

What is an endowment?

University Prep is about students and teachers. The endowment fund sustains the people at the heart of the institution by providing annual resources for financial aid and professional development. This allows University Prep to continue our tradition of discovering and nourishing each student’s potential and enhancing the professional of faculty and staff.

How are endowment gifts different from Puma Fund gifts?

Gifts to endowment are invested, managed by the investment committee for long-term growth, and will benefit students forever. Puma Fund gifts are spent this year for immediate impact on every student’s experience at University Prep.

Why does growing the endowment matter now?

The school is now over 40 years old. A healthy endowment helps to assure a school’s future while supporting current needs. The endowment fund:

  • Is invested for long-term growth
  • Benefits current and future students
  • Creates a legacy of support for teaching and learning at UPrep forever

What if the $100 admission price is prohibitive for me?

Please contact Michele Hayes in the Financial Aid office at mhayes@universityprep.org or 206.832.1118 for financial assistance.

Can I donate money without participating in the Raise-the-Paddle?

You can donate at any time! Visit our website or go to www.supportuprep.org for more information.

What will the money raised go towards?

All funds raised at #WeAreUPrep will go to University Prep's Financial Aid Endowment.

What will the event be like?

Come ready for a fun evening of art and great conversation!  We'll have delicious food from TASTE and complimentary wine and beer. The Seattle Art Museum galleries will be open to all guests and UPrep students will be showcasing their talents in music and dance performances throughout the night.

How should I dress?

Business casual, but dressier if you wish.

Will my grade be gathering for a pre-function party?

Individual classes may or may not meet for pre-function gatherings; these events would be parent-driven, not school-sponsored. Class reps would provide information to their respective classes on any planned pre-function party.

Will food and drinks be provided?

This event will be catered by TASTE and we will have a buffet of heavy hors d'oeuvres. There will also be hosted beer and wine, with a cash bar for cocktails.

Where is SAM and where should I park?

The Seattle Art Museum is located at 1300 1st Ave, in downtown Seattle. Paid parking is available at Russell Investments Garage and the entrance is on Union between 1st and 2nd Ave. There is a garage elevator that connects directly to Seattle Art Museum. If you don't want to drive, UPrep will provide a discount code for all registered guests with Uber. The code will be given in the confirmation email received upon ticket purchase.

Will the art exhibits be open?

Yes, absolutely! The galleries will be open after the program and SAM docents will be providing tours throughout the evening, including the new exhibition, Figuring History. For more information on our tour guides and the exhibit, read our interview on the UPrep blog!
